A Prophetic Warning to Stay Anchored in Truth as Counterfeit Light Seeks to Deceive
Spiritual narcissism is, unfortunately, a very real issue within the body of Christ. Just a few weeks ago, I had an encounter with someone who exemplified this spirit. From the very first moment of our conversation, there was an immediate spiritual dissonance; an atmosphere marked by entitlement, superiority, and a false sense of discernment.
Authority in the Kingdom is not about credentials as many think, it’s about character, humility, and the evidence of the Holy Spirit’s refining work in a person’s life.
Many individuals walk in what appears to be spiritual authority simply because they have attended numerous ministry schools or conferences and unfortunately, many fall for it. However, when their character is tested, the fruit of true spiritual maturity is noticeably absent.
Authority in the Kingdom is not about credentials as many think, it’s about character, humility, and the evidence of the Holy Spirit’s refining work in a person’s life. I have found that many spiritual narcissists walk in divination which is an open door to demonic spirits.

One troubling behavior I’ve witnessed is the use of spiritual gifts, such as praying in tongues, in a manner that attempts to silence or condemn others while they are speaking. Rather than being edifying, it becomes a demonstration of superiority & accusation; an implication that they are discerning something others cannot. This is not the heart of Jesus. This behavior is rooted more in pride than in the Holy Spirit.

We must be careful not to fall into this trap. Spiritual narcissism is often deeply connected to unresolved personal and mental health issues, and in some cases, a complete distortion of prophetic calling. Some have convinced themselves that they are above correction or accountability, confusing spiritual gifting with spiritual maturity.
Everything we do must point back to our redeemer Jesus Christ.
One thing that has been highlighted to me is when we use the gifts that are irrevocable Romans 11:29 to prostitute the Holy Spirit for self-glorification this literally grieves all of heaven. Everything we do must point back to our redeemer Jesus Christ.
Scripture is clear: the Holy Spirit is our teacher (John 14:26). While ministry training is very valuable, it cannot replace the internal process of sanctification which includes the crushing, refining, and wilderness seasons that develop true spiritual authority.
You cannot bypass the breaking process and assume that school or platform experience alone qualifies you to lead. Ministry is not about self-promotion; it is about laying yourself down for the benefit of others aligning with the Father's heart.

There is a concerning spirit of narcissism operating within certain parts of the Church today. It often masquerades as spiritual insight or prophetic gifting, but its fruit is control, manipulation, and self-exaltation. These individuals may present as loving, caring, and wise at first, but over time, the mask falls and the true agenda is revealed: control, condemnation, and the pursuit of influence. This behavior often aligns with the spirits of Jezebel and Leviathan; manipulative forces that thrive on positioning themselves for platform and power over a ministry.

We, as the body of Christ, must remain discerning. Scripture warns us that the enemy comes as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14)—and so do many in the Church. Familiar with prophetic language and emotional cues, they know how to appear authentic. But true discernment comes from the Holy Spirit, and the fruit will always reveal the root.
The Lord is purifying His bride, thank you Lord! He is exposing mixed motives, false authority, and self-serving agendas. Ministry is not about elevating oneself; it is about glorifying Jesus and serving His people with humility, love, and truth.
Let us be vigilant, prayerful, and submitted to the process of refinement, so we may reflect Christ authentically and help bring healing, not harm, to the Church.

If this puts a check in your spirit I encourage you to go to your church leadership that can lead you in prayer for deliverance and healing.
It’s time the body gets healthy again, it’s time to embrace the image of Jesus.
Blessings & Shalom,
Jessica S.
