Your Daily Walk
With God:
The Enoch Way

Dr. Brian Simmons

Sep 1, 2025

Can you imagine Adam telling Enoch about what it was like walking with God in the garden?

And I think that testimony got so deep inside of Enoch… he said, “Well, I want that.”

Enoch walked with God.

Wow.

Genesis 5:24 tells us: Enoch walked with God as His intimate friend, then God took him to Himself, and he was seen no more.

The lifespan of Enoch—interestingly—was 365 years. Isn’t that interesting? You have the opportunity every day to walk with God like Enoch did.

Let’s look at the Hebrew word for walk.

It’s halak. And it has multiple meanings.

It means to walk, to progress, to go, to move out.

But halak is also translated in Psalm 77:18 as “to flash back and forth.” It’s used in Genesis where the flaming sword of God flashed back and forth. That’s the word for Enoch walked with God.

He flashed back and forth with God.

He went into the spirit and back into his body.

He walked with God.

If you’re going to walk with God, you’re going to get in His world—and God’s going to get into your world.

Hallelujah. That’s the humility of God—to humble Himself and come be with you. But you need to get into His world.

Jesus came into your world—now get into His.

Walk in the Spirit. Walk with God.

That same word halak is also translated in Genesis 7 as “to float,” and in Habakkuk 3 as “to fly.”

So it says Enoch intimately knew God… and floated with Him. Flashed back and forth with Him. Walked with Him.

Wowsers.

Wowsers.

Wowsers.

This is worth reading today just to get this!

Then it says God took him—and I added the words—He took him to Himself. And this is why the Hebrew word took can also mean a husband or a bridegroom taking a wife.

Even in our wedding ceremonies, we say, “I take you as my lawfully wedded wife.” That would be the Hebrew word—taking to yourself.

God took Enoch into Himself.

Enoch becomes a picture of the Bride of Christ—a faint picture, but nonetheless a hint of the Bride.

Luke includes Enoch in the genealogy of Jesus.

Hebrews 11 says Enoch walked in faith.

So if you’re going to walk in the Spirit…

You’re going to walk in faith.

Ancient Jewish and Arabic writings often refer to Enoch as the one who possesses the secrets of heaven—who invented mathematics, astronomy, a lunar-based calendar; that he was so filled with the Holy Spirit. Some even believe he may have built the pyramids!

Enoch was quite a man.

He walked with God.

Now imagine what you will be like if you walk with God.

Seven times it says: Walk in the Spirit.

Walking with God in the Old Covenant becomes walking in the Spirit in the New Covenant. You got it!

But the same relationship that Adam, Eve, Enoch, and Noah had—you are given freely.

Freely.

Given by grace in the gospel.

And now—you can walk in the Spirit.

There is such mystery in this phrase—“walk in the Spirit”—that the evangelical world has missed.

There’s so much more.

As I shared with you, Hebrew shows us what it means to walk—to float, to flash back and forth.

I believe Enoch was in his body and out of his body.

Paul even says he was in his body and out of his body, in his mind and out of his mind.

In the Spirit, you are fully becoming the heavenly person you are called to be.

We are seated in heavenly places.

So since you’re seated there… get up and walk around a while.

Put on your shoes and start walking in the Spirit.

Don’t put on Nike’s—I don’t like them.

Put on your New Balance.

Like the old people wear.

Put on your shoes.

Get up and walk.

Now… Noah. I don’t want to miss Noah.

The name Noah means rest or comfort.

Isn’t it interesting that rest walked?

Rest walked with God.

So we walk with Him out of rest. Not out of striving. Not out of “Oh no, one more thing I have to do.”

No. You don’t have to.

You get to.

You have the open portal into the heavenly realm.

The blood, Spirit, and cross have qualified you.

You are as holy—hang on—you are as holy as Jesus Christ in the heavenly realm.

You are a lookalike of Jesus.

You have throne room rights.

You don’t need visitation rights—you can hang your hat there.

You can rest there in the heavenly realm.

To walk in the Spirit means you have stepped into the supernatural, because the Holy Spirit is supernatural.

You can’t walk in the Spirit and not have a supernatural impact on your life.

He wants to walk with you.

Live with you.

Shepherd you.

Comfort you.

Fill you.

Empower you.

Blast you with glory.

You will rise up with eagle’s wings—

The fullness of the Spirit—

The abundance of supernatural life—

And you will walk in the Spirit.

Dr. Brian and Candice Simmons have been described as true pioneers in ministry. Their teaching gifts have opened doors in many nations to take the message of awakening and revival. For the last forty years they have labored together to present Christ in His fullness wherever God sends them.

After a dramatic conversion to Christ in 1971 Brian answered the call of God to leave everything behind and become a missionary to the tribes. Taking his wife and three children to the jungle of Central America they pioneered church plants for many years with the Paya-Kuna people group. While serving as a missionary, Dr. Simmons planted churches and established leadership for the churches that Jesus birthed. As a linguist, Brian also assisted in the translation of the New Testament.

While Brian was serving in Panama, Central America, God spoke early one morning saying: “Revival is coming to North America and YOU will be a part of this.” From that Divine encounter, Brian received a fresh understanding of God’s prophetic purposes for the last days’ awakening among the nations. Shortly thereafter, he moved his family back to North America and based their ministry in New England where they started Gateway Christian Fellowship, a growing church and training center for the northeast of the U.S. After serving as Sr. Pastor for 18 years, Brian released Gateway into the capable hands of this emerging generation.

He is the author of numerous books that reveal depths of insight that the Holy Spirit has released for the last few days. His best-selling book, The Sacred Journey, has been translated into Korean and French. Other titles Brian has written include: Throne Room Prayer, The Dreamer, The Blessing, Not Guilty, and The Image-Maker.

Brian and Candice are presently involved in translating the Bible in a dynamic version aptly named The Passion Translation. The New Testament, along with other Old Testament portions have already been published, and the entire Bible is scheduled for completion by 2027.

Brian and Candice have been married for 53 years and have 3 delightful children and 8 heavenly grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Their passion is to be loving examples of a spiritual father and mother to this generation.
